Thorpedo beaten!
The Australian of the Year (can't remember which year) and the world record holder Ian Thorpe lost 200 metre freestyle race for the first time to an Australian since 1997, back then he was only 14.
Well, I am not Thorpedo fan.
WORLD record holder Ian Thorpe lost a 200 metre freestyle race for the first time in four years at a grand prix meet in Brisbane today.Grant Hackett touched Thorpe out by nine-hundredths of a second, clocking 1min 49.18secs.
It's the first time Thorpe has been beaten over four laps since Dutchman Pieter van den Hoogenband won the gold medal at the Sydney 2000 Olympics.
Thorpe hasn't lost to an Australian over the distance in an Olympic size pool since 1997 when he was a 14-year-old.
The 21-year-old clocked 1min 49.27secs today - more than five seconds outside his world record of 1:44.06.
But the unusually-bearded Thorpe hasn't rested for the Brisbane meet and ditched his black bodysuit for today's race, swimming in briefs.
