it's wise to carry a spare battery
... or you might get arrested when you charge your laptop in public.
A 23-year-old travelling Greenpeace activist arrested last year for plugging his Apple iBook into a railway station power socket. He apparently low on battery power. The electricity he stole valued at €0.002 . The charge is now dropped by German police.

I did buy a spare battery for my digital camera (Canon PowerShot S50). It did prove to be useful in a few occasions.
